Exploring AP Art: Unleash Your Creativity!
Welcome to AP Art at Cottonwood High with Ms. Barney! 🎨
What's AP® Art and Design? So, you've got AP Art on your schedule! Exciting, right? Don't worry if you're feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. Many students find AP Art to be both challenging and incredibly rewarding. It's a class where you'll not only create amazing art but also learn about yourself, develop time management skills, make friends, and grow as both a student and an artist.
What Courses are Offered? There are four types of AP Art classes, but three of them are traditional studio art classes. These are AP Two-Dimensional Design (AP2D), AP Three-Dimensional Design (AP3D), and AP Draw. The fourth is AP Art History, a class focusing on how art reflects and is influenced by changes in society and culture over time.
What to Expect in Each Class:
AP2D📸: Explore different design principles using various art forms like painting, drawing, digital art, and more. You'll focus on height and width (2D) creations.
AP3D 🏺: Dive into design principles with 3D art like ceramics, sculpture, and more. You'll also learn about how the space around the artwork impacts its message.
AP Draw 🎨: Develop your skills in drawing and mark-making using a wide range of media. It's not just about pencil and paper – you can get creative with your techniques!
Building Your Portfolio: Your AP Art portfolio has two main parts:
Sustained Investigation (SI): Explore a topic through a series of artworks. Show your process of experimenting and revising your ideas.
Selected Works (SW): Choose your best artworks that showcase your skills and ideas.
How to Choose Your Class: Your teacher will guide you based on your interests and experience. Generally, students progress through 2D1, 2D2, then AP2D before taking on AP Draw. If you're interested in 3D art, consider taking AP3D after some foundational classes. Keep in mind that some schools might only offer AP Art to juniors or seniors due to its advanced nature.
Get Inspired: Ready for an amazing journey in AP Art? Check out more information and resources at this link.
Specifics for Each Class:
AP 2-D Art and Design Portfolio:
Selected Works (SW): Pick 5 artworks that highlight your 2D skills and explain your ideas, materials, and processes in concise paragraphs.
Sustained Investigation (SI): Create 15 digital images showing your exploration, experimentation, and revision. Describe your guiding question and the growth of your ideas.
Remember to provide details like materials used and image size for each submission.
AP Drawing Portfolio:
Selected Works (SW): Choose 5 drawings that showcase your skills. Describe your ideas, materials, and processes briefly for each.
Sustained Investigation (SI): Craft 15 digital images displaying your journey of exploration, experimentation, and revision. Explain your guiding question and how you developed your ideas.
Don't forget to include material details and image size for each piece.
Get ready for an exciting adventure in AP Art! Your creativity knows no bounds, and this class will help you unlock your full artistic potential. 🎨🌟
