Art is about ideas, research, and questions (encourages viewers to inquire and can be ambiguous, poetic, metaphoric)

Illustration is about the depiction (or explanation) of an idea or question, a solution to a problem and it is about making things clear and understandable. It is often a representation or description of a story or idea.

Example: Light

2. Create a line of inquiry (what is your own assignment or challenge? Create a new body of work, area of focus, iterative and sustained investigation based off of a query or question or problem or idea)

Examples: What is authentic or what is authenticity?  Jan Yager's "City Flotsam" or What is beautiful without sight? (Sophie Calle's "The Blind" or How do I know myself when I am not looking at myself? Sophie Calle)

Processes of creating a lie of inquiry:

Think about what topic/idea/theme you are passionate about

Write down questions you have within that theme

Work through your ideas

Create work and then expand on them

a. What do you have to say?

Skateboarding and Art (as an artistic form)

b. Who else is saying it?

How can I connect with those people?

c. When and where are you going to be able to contribute to something? (Barry Mcgee)

3. Make your own assignment
